HIGH POINT SPRING MARKET 2012

Textures were a noticeable presence at the Spring Market this year in High Point, NC. On everything from furniture to lighting, whether they were refined and sophisticated or unfinished and earthy, natural fibers and textured fabrics were all around.

This beautiful 3-drawer chest is fabricated from birch wood and covered with burlap, with nailhead details. The natural appeal of burlap is accentuated when used in simple modern interiors, it can be add variety when placed with wood floors, and contrasts the clean lines of contemporary furniture.

Consoles and table lamps alike were wrapped in rope, enhancing the traditional turned leg of this console table. The robust and textured finish makes it the perfect background for a collection of objects such as metal or glass to contrast the natural light and shade of the woven surface.

The clean lines and simple shape of this elegant dresser are given a laid-back feel with rattan drawer detailing. Small fabulous legs make this dresser anything but casual, with refined hardware and craftmanship. We spotted pieces like this throughout our trip, perfect for a bedroom with a light and airy feel.

Natural textures and fibers were prevalent in the lighting category this year. Perhaps the most intriguing we saw was this fabulous pendant chandelier crafted from natural bark fiber. Rough hewn with contrast stitching, we love this piece that speaks both to the earthy trend or, when paired with a sleek dining table, makes a powerful statement that is also refined and urbane.
